Approval Workflow: Conceptor functionality

Who are the conceptors?

Conceptors are the people in charge of defining a workflow process model, and then importing it into the workflow engine (or removing it). They are defined in an authoritative identity source, such as an LDAP directory or the SIB.

Web forms

All conceptor actions are performed via web forms. No installation is needed on the conceptor station. The web form access is protected by authentication toward the authoritative identity source.

Describe a process model

From a web form, the conceptor can start the graphical tool, to define process models.

Defining a process model consists in defining:

  • The process graph (manual or automatic activities, and transitions)
  • The user roles for the process
  • The data managed by the process
  • The actions that are executed during each activity
  • Deadlines for each activity

Import or remove a process model in the workflow engine

A process model is saved into an XPDL file. The conceptor has the possibility of importing this XPDL file into the workflow engine. The conceptor can also remove a process model from the workflow engine.
